Pen{pal}s

A few years ago, when I was a little girl, I started a pen pal relationship with one of my parents' friends-who my mom was actually pen pals with when she was a little girl while he was in Vietnam- who lived in Florida, then NY, then Las Vegas. All along his journey, and along mine, we wrote back and forth, building a unique friendship through our words. Eventually, my pen-pal moved back to Minnesota so we were no longer just paper friends, but 'friends' friends.

Now once again my friend has moved to Florida, and I have moved to Las Vegas, so I got to thinking this morning... I need to send Dennis a letter... So, I'm re-starting my pen-pal relationship with an old friend!

{Random} Acts of {Kindness}

It's Random Acts of Kindness week (Feb. 15-Feb. 21) and while this is a good thing, it's kind of like Valentine's Day: It shouldn't take a dedicated week to get people to do random acts of kindness. Still, it's a good reminder and encouragement for me to try and do more random acts of kindness-so that's my goal for the week, and year, to do more random acts of kindness!

he is {good}.

Mama you taught me to do the right things
So now you have to let your baby fly
You've given me everything that I will need
To make it through this crazy thing called life
And I know you watch me grow up and always want whats best for me
And I think I found the answer to your prayers
And he is good, so good
He treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
No he's never gonna leave
So dont you worry about me
Dont you worry about meMama theres no way you'll ever lose me
And giving me away is not goodbye
As you watch me walk down to my future, I hope tears of joy are in your eyes

Cuz he is good, so good
He treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
No he's never gonna leave
So dont you worry about me
Dont you worry about me

And when I watch my little baby grow I'll only want whats best for her
And I hope she'll find the answer to my prayers
And that she'll say

He is good, so good
He treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
No he's never gonna leave
So dont you worry about me
Dont you worry about me

Mama dont you worry about me

{Dump} Dinner

Last night, Justin and I went over to John & Linda's for dinner and "Game Night." On the menu: 'Dump Dinner'!! This was the cutest idea I have ever seen. As everyone arrived, John and Linda were secretive about what we were having for dinner... then they started setting up the table, not with the usual plates and forks, but with newspapers and a tablecloth. As we all sat down around the table, John brought over a huge pot, pretended to trip, and dumped our dinner out all over the table in front of us!! Sooo cute! After I got over my shock, thinking that he really did trip and spill, I realized what was going on. No forks, no plates: just DIG IN! and it was Yummy! What a cute idea! After dinner, the games began!! First up: Apples to Apples, a classic full of LAUGHS! And after we thought we couldn't laugh any harder, we moved on to Guesstures and were soon rolling on the ground [practically] laughing at the actors in our group!

What an awesome night- Thanks John & Linda!!

Wearing Red.

In honor of Valentine's Day coming up, I decided to wear my red converse all stars today [which I've worn twice since I've gotten them]. I'm feeling very punk-rocky.

Saturday, Justin and I stumbled upon a yummy treat at the Mirage Hotel & Casino-- Blizz Frozen Yogurt. Of course we loaded our chocolate flavored frozen yogurt up with lots of goodies [think Reese's Pieces, Brownie Bites, Cookie Dough Bites, & Rolos].

Night {1} of Busy Weekend.

Last night was the beginning of our fun-filled, busy weekend, as we kick started it with the Calhoun Technologies/ItPartsDepot Company Christmas party [Justin's work]. All of the sales reps from the Vegas branch, their significant others, and a few managers/employees from the MN branch were in attendance! We started off with dinner at Ventano's Italian & Oyster Bar for some yummy food, great wine [and lots of it], and good company! After a 3 course meal and about 4 hours, we closed down the restaurant and made our way out... Afterward, we found ourselves down at the strip on top of the Rio, at VooDoo lounge [my favorite place in Vegas]. We finally headed home around 4 a.m.!!! That's what time Justin and I usually get up!! Can you say, 'tired today'?! But it was all worth it and we had a great time! Thank you Calhoun Technologies for a wonderful evening!!

{Happy} Week!

So this week [actually, it began last week] has been an exciting week for me on the job front, as a number of things have started to brew.

First of all, I had a 'first interview' for an "Enrollment Specialist" position at Children's Learning Adventure on Tuesday. This company is new to the Vegas area, so they are just building and getting started [they are established in Arizona already] around this area. After driving by the new one just up the road from us, I googled it and ended up inquiring online about this position. With NO job description to be found anywhere, I was a little nervous about going into the interview. Luckily, the lady was really nice and she was more just testing my personality to determine whether to pass on my information. All went well and she said that I should hear back soon from the CEO of the company who I'll have to interview with next [eek!] because it's actually considered a management level position. So I'm waiting patiently to hear back from her!

Next, I FINALLY, finally, heard back from the Clark County School District about my substitute teaching application. I applied way back in October, interviewed right before Thanksgiving, and just heard that I GOT IT this week! So now I am just waiting for the pre-employment packet to come in the mail [should be here today!!!] to figure out what my next steps should be. This will be a perfect job for me, as it is flexible [so I can travel!!] and can be part-time/full-time! So until I hear back from my these other jobs, I will enjoy this and it could potentially lead to me being a full time teacher, we'll see how it goes!

Thirdly, awhile back I had applied for a position as a 'Student Success Coach' with DeVry University , and recently I was asked to go online to do an initial assessment, which I must have passed, because yesterday I received another email saying, "Congratulations, you have been selected to continue with the interview process." This lead me to fill out ANOTHER online assessment, so I am again just waiting to hear back from them for the next step!

And, last but not least, this morning, I opened my email to ANOTHER pleasant surprise [I just love getting emails from job places, except when it's the rejection email, which, I have unfortunately received as well :/]. Anyways, this was from Humana, Inc, which I applied to awhile ago as well [I'm realizing how long it must take to filter through all the applications and finish the process] asking me to continue with the interview process as well. This of course, required an online assessment [very convenient way for them to wean out the candidates] which I just completed. So yet again, waiting game! Which is good, because anyone who knows me knows patience is not my virtue, and my patience has sure been tested and practiced throughout my entire job search process.

So, hopefully, pretty soon I'll be able to quit adjusting my resume and cover letter and settle into a position with one, or a completely different, of these places!

I {Believe}...
